“I have severe headaches, especially when I go out in the sun, Mam” A patient who came in to consult, on the very first visit, complained.
I could see the agony on her face. She was in her late forties, with a moderate built and well-maintained body.
Since when did it start? I asked trying to analyze the case.
“It started a couple of years back, but now the frequency and intensity has gone up. The pain area is also bigger now, includes the neck region as well. My neck becomes rigid and stiff.”
“How is your bowel movement?” My usual question
“Sometimes I have constipation, but usually its fine”.
“But yes, I have a lot of bloating in my stomach”, she admitted with a grim face.
“My abdomen feels heavy at times, and I do not feel hungry much throughout the day, then.
So, recently I have given up eating wheat items, and it has reduced my bloating to some extent. But this headache is troubling me a lot”.
"Ohk", I exclaimed and asked about any previous history of illness or operative.
Nothing much, she added, “I had hysterectomy (uterus removal operative) a few years back”.
Now I thought I got all my answers. "So, your headache problem started after that? I asked trying to confirm my conclusion”.
Yes, she said. A few months after that. But how does it matter?
It does. It is the reason for 'Vata dosha' imbalances in your body. And wherever there is dysfunctional or imbalanced Vata, there is Pain.
“What is this Vata?” she asked looking puzzled.
Vata is nothing but one of the three functional energies of your body (Other two being, Pitta and Kapha). It maintains the functions and keeps the body healthy. But due to some causative factors, the Vata gets imbalanced and causes disorders.
“How do we balance it then?” she asked the most appropriate question, this time.

“Let me analyze your daily regimen at present, about what you eat and do throughout your day. We will find out all the causative factors for excess and imbalanced Vata and work upon them.”
"Sure", she said and started describing her normal day since she wakes up.
After taking complete history, I pointed out to her things, she needed to avoid or start afresh to balance her Vata dosha (humor). Also, I gave her medicines for the same.
After a couple of days, she called me up.
“Hello Mam, I feel my stomach bloating is back and it’s a bit painful”.
“What about your headache?” I asked.
“Headache has reduced since I visited you. But this stomach is giving me trouble now” she said sounding worried.
"Don’t worry", I tried to reassure her.
“It will be fine in a day or two. Vata dosha is getting detoxified from the body, so a bit of pain and bloating in your stomach is normal. It will go away soon. Once your body gets rid of it completely, you will be normal again.”
She called back after 3-4 days, this time sounding better than earlier.
“Hello mam, my stomach is normal again and my headache is much better. Intensity has reduced a lot in a week.
She came to visit me after one more week of medication and she was completely fine. Even after 3 months now, she’s not had the episode. Sometimes it does pain around her period dates, but intensity is much reduced and better with some home remedies that I told her to do.

So, remember always,
No Pain, No Gain
Wherever there is Pain, Vata imbalance is main,
Vata aggravates in Rain,
Causes disorders we disdain,
Stomach Joint and Back Pain,
Without Ayurveda regimen, it is Vain;
With Ayurveda treatment adherence,
